Per-seat scheduling apps

General-purpose shift and workforce-scheduling software, priced per user per month (think Deputy, When I Work, or Connecteam).

Where it's the right call

If your crew already lives inside one app (checks it every shift, swaps shifts in it, clocks in through it), a mature per-seat scheduler is a solid, proven choice. It's built for that habit, and it fits industries where most of the roster works most weeks.

Where it breaks for a security crew

  • Security rosters are bench-heavy (a lot of names, a fraction of them working in any given month), and per-seat billing charges for every name, working or not.
  • Texting is usually an add-on or missing outright, so a guard who won't install another app doesn't get full service.
  • A guard who never opens the app never sees the shift, and security crews skew toward guards who'd rather get a text.

Enterprise guard-management suites

Heavyweight platforms built for large, multi-branch guard companies, with deep tour and patrol tooling (think TrackTik, Trackforce, or WinTeam).

Where it's the right call

For a large, multi-branch operation running patrol tours with waypoint scanning, deep compliance reporting, and an in-house implementation team, these suites are already built for that job — depth NabShift doesn't try to match.

Where it breaks for a security crew

  • Pricing is typically quote-only, hard to compare and harder to budget for before a sales call.
  • Onboarding is usually an implementation project measured in weeks or months, not an afternoon.

The free option every crew starts with — a broadcast group thread plus a spreadsheet or whiteboard for who's working where.

  • Everyone on the list sees every reply: pay differences and restricted posts leak to guards who shouldn't see them.

What NabShift doesn't do (yet)

  • No patrol-tour or waypoint-scanning tooling — if your ops depend on scanning checkpoints along a route, an enterprise suite still does that better.
  • No payroll processing or tax filing. We export a payroll CSV; your existing payroll runs it.
